Case insights:

Put yourself in Kristen’s shoes. She is starting her own business, baking make-to-order cookies. Basic times of each operation are laid out and you are asked to determine the consequences for the operating system. Apply concepts such as capacity, bottlenecks, and throughput times to synthesize the case. Draw (or use flow chart tools within your office software) to demonstrate your understanding of general concepts and the operations processes described in the case. Your team should evaluate the proposed system and make recommendations for key policy decisions for pricing, equipment purchases, how many orders to accept, and ultimately whether the company will be able to be profitable. Your team will likely make several useful suggestions for improving the system during your analysis. Make sure you identify the capacity and bottleneck constraints along with evaluating throughput. Prepare the context and address the end of case questions within your write-up.
