- View the data that the CDC has on Opioid overdoses in America. There are several pages, so click around. https://www.cdc.gov/drugoverdose/data/analysis.html
- Next, choose one European country from the following website: http://www.emcdda.europa.eu/countries
- Compare and contrast the drugs used, prevalence rates, and prevention strategies being utilized by the country you selected and the United States. What patterns, if any, do you observe? Which prevention strategy do you feel is the most efficient? Support your answers with evidence.
The websites above provide a starting point for this assignment. Additional, independent research may be necessary to answer the question completely.
Assignments must be between 300-400 words, in a standard 12 pt font. If citations are used, APA style should be implemented.
Discussion Board Topic: Throughout history, the laws surrounding illicit substances have changed substantially. Compare early 20th century United States with current day United States. What types of restrictions/laws have been put into place regarding the use and distribution of drugs? Have the laws created new behaviors surrounding the manufacturing and use of drugs? Have restrictions led to new ways of supplying drugs to those who wish to use them? Use your module resources to support your answers.
Part 2
Discussion Board Topic: Consider the cycle of juvenile justice along with the biological and sociological differences between juveniles and adults. Explain why adults and juveniles who engage in criminal behavior be treated differently from each other.
Discussion Board Guidelines: Submit your answer to the discussion board. It should follow the Discussion Board Rubric and will be graded according to that Rubric. Refer to and cite current resources in your answer. You will need to respond to two peer’s posting. These will also be graded according to the rubric.

Part 3
Begin by listening to the Serial Season 3 Podcast, Episodes 2 and 3 (you’ll be listening to episode 1 in a later module).
After listening to these episodes, think about the question that you answered in your introduction: What is the role of the court system in our country today? Think about both the criminal and civil court systems, policy, the roles of the various people involved in the court system, and your own personal experiences.
The US Courts website answers the question this way: “Courts decide what really happened and what should be done about it. They decide whether a person committed a crime and what the punishment should be. They also provide a peaceful way to decide private disputes that people can’t resolve themselves.”
Do you agree with that assessment?
Answer all of the questions above, making sure to incorporate the details from the podcasts included. Your response should be at least 250 words, and you should also respond to two of your classmates.
Part 4
Spend some time watching the documentary “True Justice” from HBO. The film is an hour and forty minutes, but I think you will find it worthwhile.

The documentary highlights the work of Bryan Stevenson, the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative and the author of “Just Mercy”. After watching the documentary, discuss your impressions making sure to incorporate the factual information from the documentary. Ultimately, answer the question, “what is justice” and then discuss whether you think we see justice in our court systems today. If so, support that position with evidence. If not, explain why.
