Unit 4 Discussion – Ecological Collapse

Learning Goal: I’m working on a history question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Read Jared Diamond’s, “Ecological Collapses of Past Civilizations (Links to an external site.).” Briefly summarize Diamond’s argument, then consider his “lessons for our times.” What are your thoughts on his assertion that, “we all risk a collapse of world society” if we are not more mindful of protecting our most vulnerable environments? What are your thoughts on his assertions that we “all risk a collapse of world society” if we are not more mindful about protecting those is in fragile environments? He claims that “History has important lessons to teach;” are there any specific lessons from the examples in the article that rang true for you?
